Central European Jewry. This course will introduce ten major themes that formed history and culture of the Jewry from the eighteenth until the twentieth century. Topics will include: Tradition, Hasidism, Haskala, Emancipation, Orthodoxy, Anti-Semitism, Jewish nationalism and Zionism, Holocaust and the State Israel. Readings will include both primary and secondary sources. |
