An increasingly globalised world also means a greater need for effective communication between cultures. People from different cultures, some of which were previously considered remote and isolated, can now easily connect using digital technologies. With this shift, countries have also become increasingly dependent on each other. Intercultural communication is a dynamic, ever-changing field that is addressed by a number of academic disciplines. Intercultural communication emphasizes the influence of culture on the communication process, including differences in values, message systems, nonverbal communication, and rules of communication.
The course introduces students to basic approaches to intercultural communication and also aims to increase awareness of the impact of culture on strategic communications. By studying the principles of communication and practicing intercultural competence, students will develop a greater tolerance and understanding of intercultural differences in personal and professional interactions.
