Check regularly "yymmdd_jem001" file (log-in to see the file), where your fulfilled requirements are noted (including students of JEM169 and JMMZ019). To finish the course you must fulfill the following minimum requirements.

1. Attendance: You must attend all three seminars.

You must be online-present at all 3 seminars (which applies to students studying abroad as well). The exact dates of your seminar will be specified in the file "seminars_dates" (log-in to see the file). If you cannot attend your seminars at specified date, you can switch with your colleague but need to inform us in advance. 

The seminars are organised as individual consultations on the first come, first served basis, and start at 5 pm. This semester the seminars will be held online via MS Teams (use the following link to join the team: https://teams.microsoft.com/l/team/19%3a6034b6d648a648f5b789bdf0fd963553%40thread.tacv2/conversations?groupId=3b0195ca-0c6a-431a-8b51-75cf50b0ad97&tenantId=e09276da-f934-4086-bf08-8816a20414a2). Use your university account to log in (log with your student ID number as, for example, [e-mail] and use your CAS password). When you log in at the time of the seminar (but not before 4.45PM on Tuesday) go to the "Posts" section of the team and write a post indicating whom you would like to consult with: "prof. Mejstrik" or "doc. Havranek". In general, prof. Mejstrik handles finance topics, doc. Havranek handles economics topics, and you are required to talk to both during the semester. Your posts in MS Teams will be sorted by time, so you will always see how many students are in the queue ahead of you. When it's your turn, the respective teacher will initiate a video call with you. Note that there will be no written progress reports this year; all consultations will be held by video call at the time of the seminars.

In short, 1) first log in to MS Teams to MA thesis seminar team, 2) at the beginning of the seminar, post whom you want to talk to, 3) wait till the teacher calls you.

2. Proposal: You must e-mail us your signed thesis proposal (send it to us unsigned before the first seminar and, when approved, send it to us with your's and your supervisor's signature).

You must send it by email before the first seminar (that is, you should find your topic and your supervisor before the first seminar). We may ask you to make some adjustments; in that case, always send us also the new version. Once your proposal is approved at the seminar, get your supervisor's signature, and send us a scanned final version of the proposal signed by you and your supervisor. We should have your signed proposal in our mailbox before the third seminar at the latest.

3. First Part & Data: You must send us the first part of your thesis by the end of December for winter semester or end of June for summer semester (at least 15 pages of solid text).

You must send us at least 15 standard pages (27ths. characters including spaces, excluding the abstract, cover pages, references, proposal, and appendices) showing that you are capable of producing an academic text. If you write an empirical thesis, you also need to enclose summary statistics (the means and standard errors of all variables) of your data to show that you have obtained access to the relevant data sources in time. Everything you send us is automatically checked for plagiarism. This first part must be approved by your supervisor (no official approval is required) and cannot be sent later than by the fixed deadline of December 31 or June 30. Please include [e-mail] in carbon copy of your email addressed to all 3 teachers.

Rules of communication. You are required to send 2 documents at least to pass the course: the thesis proposal and the first part of the thesis. All e-mails should be sent to all of the following addresses: [e-mail], [e-mail], [e-mail].

• Send the proposal as yoursurname_proposal.doc; the subject of the e-mail must be: JEM001 Proposal (Yoursurname), use proposal template above. 
• Send the first part of the thesis as yoursurname_firstpart.pdf; the subject of the e-mail must be: JEM001 First Part (Yoursurname).

Always send the current version of your thesis in advance, at least a day before the seminar starts. A few days after the deadlines an xls file will be published on this webpage to indicate students that passed the requirement.

You are eligible for credits only if you fulfill all the course requirements and convince us that you are capable of writing a good thesis by mid-May/beg-Jan. Always check for official deadlines in current academic year on FSV web.

Please, take your time and go through a few good theses which you can find on the website. Most of them include thesis proposals---this is the best inspiration for you and it will answer a lot of your questions. Read the documents "Academic Writing" and "Handbook" above. Your thesis will be evaluated according to its quality, not number of pages, but you have to fulfill the minimum requirements of the Faculty (50 standard pages from the Introduction to the Conclusion for theses written in English). If you think about writing your thesis in LaTeX, there is a template created specifically for the IES (attached above). Empirically there is a significant correlation between the usage of LaTeX and the final grade.

For information on final examination for master's degree, see this website. For the winter semester 2019/2020, final master's exams including thesis defense will be held on February 5, 2020. For the summer semester 2019/2020, the exams will be held on June 16-17, 2020, and for the prolonged summer period on September 15-16, 2020. Time schedule will be published one week before exam. The deadline for Master's Thesis Proposals is February 15, 2021. If you want to defend your thesis at the end of the Winter Semester 2021/2022, the topic of your thesis must be confirmed by your supervisor in the Student Information System by February 15, 2021. Use the "Thesis (Selection of subject)" module in SIS to assign to your topic. You must send the proposal (following the example available on the website of JEM001 in SIS), approved by your supervisor, to [e-mail], [e-mail], and [e-mail] by e-mail by February 15, 2021 (no hard-copy is required). You can choose from a list of offered topics in SIS (or here) or come up with your own topic. In any case, you must find a suitable advisor. If your topic is not on the list, ask your supervisor to publish it. We recommend you choose a narrowly defined empirical topic. In any case, you must find a suitable advisor. Please note that the supply of advisors is limited, and most of them accept students on a first-come, first-served basis.
