In the winter semester, lectures focus on advanced forms of periodontal disease, including the diagnosis, clinical features, and therapy of periodontitis, as well as differences in the treatment of teeth with reduced periodontal support.

Credit
Credit will be awarded to students who:
have properly completed the practical training in the given semester (any absence must be duly compensated),
have demonstrated sufficient knowledge during continuous assessment,
pass the credit test with a minimum score of 75%. If a student fails to achieve at least 75% in the credit test, an oral examination covering the subject matter will follow.
Examination
Obtaining credit is a prerequisite for taking the oral examination.
In the case of repeating a study requirement, the student is obliged to complete the study requirement in its entirety.

The lectures complement the required literature. They reflect current recommendations in diagnosis and therapy. The lectures emphasize the minimum knowledge in the field required for passing the examination.
Principles of surgical therapy of periodontitis. Regenerative therapy in periodontology. Maintenance phase. (Radochova 3)
Evidence-based guideline for the treatment of stage IV periodontitis. (Radochova 1)
Therapy of advanced periodontitis – interradicular defects, tooth mobility, and endo-periodontal leasions. (Radochova 1)
Gingival enlargement. (Radochova 1)
Gingival recession, other mucogingival deformities, and mucogingival surgery. (Tranova 3)
Desquamative and traumatic gingivitis. (Slezak 1)
Inflammatory periodontal diseases and systemic diseases. (Slezak 2)
Practical courses & seminars
Practical classes take place at the Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Charles University. Students participate in patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment under the supervision of a dentist.

Examination of patients with periodontal diseases
Radiographic examination of periodontal tissues and evaluation of findings
Diagnosis, treatment planning, staging and grading of periodontitis
Oral hygiene instruction and patient motivation
Removal of calculus using ultrasonic devices; polishing of root surfaces
Scaling and root planing
Reevaluation of the patient following initial therapy and further treatment planning
Removal of subgingival calculus using specialized instruments; local treatment of periodontal pockets; treatment of furcation involvement
Strategy of periodontal treatment, occlusion assessment, and splinting of teeth in periodontology
Assistance during periodontal surgical procedures
Note:
In order to participate in practical training at the Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Charles University, students are required to wear white clinical clothing and hospital slippers and must carry their student ID card.
