Anotace - angličtina
The theoretical and methodological seminar is devoted to the methodological foundations of the field. The
methods of qualitative and quantitative research in general within the social sciences and humanities and
specifically within the field of information science are discussed in detail. Students enroll in the seminar for a total
of two academic years; at the end of the seminar in the second academic year, students produce a seminar paper
of approximately 15-20 standard pages that focuses on the application of the findings from the methodology
seminar to their own dissertation project, either in the area of quantitative or qualitative methods (depending on
the focus of the dissertation project). The aim is to describe and discuss the methodology of the dissertation with
a justification and description of the research procedure, pre-research, etc. Submission and acceptance of this
thesis by the instructor is a prerequisite for completing the course in the second academic year. The seminar is
held regularly once every 3 weeks. After consultation with the supervisor, the student chooses whether to take the
Theoretical-Methodological Seminar or the Philosophy exam (the Philosophy exam is recommended especially for
students who are already sufficiently theoretically equipped in terms of social science methodology).
