Anotace

This course aims to familiarize students with the cuneiform script and enable them to read directly in cuneiform a
variety of genres: royal inscriptions, administrative documents and letters. In the classroom sessions, we will also
discuss the cultural and historical context of the inscriptions we encounter in teh course. At the end of the course
the students should be able to read, translate, and interpret Sumerian cuneiform texts independently and put them
into their historical and cultural context. Moreover, students should have acquired a fundamental understanding of
the written legacy of Sumer.
