LS/SS 2025
Charles University Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies (MA Philosophy Students - NOTA BENE THIS IS NOT AN ERASMUS CLASS. IT ENDS WITH NO FINAL GRADE) Daniele De Santis, Ph. D. Office hours: Wednesday 11:00-12:00 Email: daniele.desantis@ff.cuni.cz The Crisis of Philosophy Edmund Husserl, Transcendental Idealism, and Metaphysics (Wednesday 9:10-10:40) Room: 2018 Despite a long-standing hermeneutical tradition that spans over the entire course of the second half of the 20th century and which claims that Husserl’s phenomenology is (or should be) metaphysically neutral, Husserl himself explicitly affirms on many occasions that the ultimate goal or aspiration of his philosophizing is, from the beginning, that of providing a new “foundation” for metaphysics. The goal of the present module is to explore the many aspects and facets of this Husserlian idea. To this end, we will have to ask ourselves what is it that Husserl means by “metaphysics” and how (or in what sense) his philosophy should be able to make metaphysics possible. Moreover, we will have to also tackle the question whether and how Husserl’s own conception of metaphysics changes over the years as he himself keeps developing his philosophy and philosophical system.
