Tento přehledový kurz mapuje vývoj skandinávských literatur od počátků písemnictví až po romantismus. V období středověku se zaměříme zejména na literaturu zapisovanou na Islandu, kde vznikala literatura v evropském kontextu zcela unikátní. Jde především o eddickou a skaldskou poezii a její hlavní dva prameny, Eddu a Snorriho Eddu, které jsou vzácným zdrojem informací o staroseverské mytologii. V kurzu bude rovněž rozebrán specificky islandský žánr – ságy. V kurzu nicméně nebude opomenuta ani literatura Dánska, Norska a Švédska. Posluchači se dále obeznámí s charakteristikami severské balady, ale také s tvorbou svaté Birgity. Rozsah kurzu není omezen středověkem, probereme i pozdější období jako klasicismus, preromantismus a romantismus. V těchto obdobích nás vždy bude zajímat renesance středověkých severských látek v tvorbě klíčových autorů jako Adam Oehlenschläger, Johannes Ewald a N. F. S. Grundtvig.

This survey course traces the development of Scandinavian literature from the beginnings of writing to Romanticism. In the medieval period we will focus in particular on the literature written in Iceland, where a literature unique in the European context was comitted to velum. These are mainly Eddic and Skaldic poetry and its two main sources, the Edda and Snorri's Edda, which are a rare source of information on Old Norse mythology. The course will also discuss a specifically Icelandic genre, the saga. The literature of Denmark, Norway and Sweden will not be neglected in the course. Students will also learn about the characteristics of the Nordic ballad, as well as the work of Saint Birgitta. The scope of the course is not limited to the Middle Ages; later periods such as Classicism, Pre-Romanticism and Romanticism will also be discussed. In these periods we will always be interested in the renaissance of medieval Nordic fabrics in the work of key authors such as Adam Oehlenschläger, Johannes Ewald and N. F. S. Grundtvig.
