home rule cooperation in the United Irishmen and Wolfe Tone’s rebellion in 1798 to the Easter Rising, the Troubles, the Civil War, and the establishment of the Irish Free State. This seminar will examine the various groups contending for political and cultural leadership and authority in Ireland, the principal causes of dissatisfaction and division, and the remedies that were proposed and applied, with varying degrees of success, throughout the period.
