The eCourse is a basic Course in Tropical and Travel Medicine for Medical

Student, titled "The Prevention of Health Problems During Travel", is the

course in the eLearning block on the study of tropical and travel

medicine for Medical Students.

At present, almost two billion people travel around the world every year.

This number includes all of the key groups, i.e. ordinary travellers,

business travellers, special groups (healthcare professionals, soldiers,

missionaries), people who are going to visit their friends and relations

('VFR travellers') and last but not least, refugees and migrants.

Around 2-3 million people in these groups travel from the Czech Republic and

a significant percentage of them return home with some kind of health

problem. For this reason it is essential that all healthcare personnel have

some awareness of travel medicine and that they can provide their patients,

who may belong to any of the groups mentioned above, at least basic

information about the health risks, possibilities for prevention depending

on risk behaviour, and about the destination where the traveller is going.

The target group for graduating from this course are all healthcare

professionals. They will be able to use the information during their routine work. Unfortunately, travel medicine is not taught in an inclusive way in the

majority of medical faculties and a deeper knowledge of this type of preventative medicine is important for every student in the Medical Faculty.

The knowledge you acquire is examined in the final test, which consists of 15 multiple choice questions. Completion of the course is based on a final self-test with a pass mark of at least 80%. This is the mark required for a credit.
