    Information on the admission procedure: The admission procedure starts with the submission of a correctly completed application and the payment of the application fee by February 29, 2024.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    ● Completion of secondary education with proof provided by September 30, 2024.
    Applicants who pass the final exam in the autumn term and applicants who have to
    wait to have their international studies recognized must present a document
    concerning their bachelor’s degree by October 22, 2024.
    Applicants who have graduated from Czech schools must provide a registered copy of their graduation certificate during enrollment.
    Applicants who hold a degree from an international school must provide proof of their education in one of the ways described at the following link:

    ● Passing the entrance exam (if the exam is not waived).
    ● Applicants will be admitted to study in the order determined by the number of points achieved in the entrance exam. The point threshold for admission to individual study programmes is set by the dean of faculty based on the number of applicants taking the entrance exam and the capacity of the faculty.
    ● Required attachments to the application form:
    o Curriculum vitae (max. one A4 page);
    o Motivation letter (max. two A4 pages);
    o Complete classification (report card) for the last two completed years of
    secondary school (this document must be in English, Czech, or Slovak;
    alternatively, it can be officially translated into one of those languages).


    ADMISSION EXAMINATION
    Primary date: 15th - 19th April, 2024
    Alternative date: 29th April, 2024

    Invitations to the admission exam are only sent electronically via the university’s electronic information system and no later than 30 days before the exam date. If the faculty sends an invitation for an alternative exam date, this period may be shortened accordingly.

    Admission exams on an alternative date may only be permitted by the dean for applicants who request an alternative date at least 3 days after the primary examination date. Only serious reasons, mainly health-related ones, can justify an alternative date. Other reasons include studying abroad in preparation for university. The request must be explained in detail, and the circumstances must be documented. Other alternative dates are not permitted.

    The application is submitted and handled through the university's electronic information system.

    The entrance examination will be waived upon the applicant’s request if he/she provides evidence in the form of an electronic copy of one of the necessary criteria.

    Viewing of personal file
    After notification of the dean’s decision regarding the outcome of the admission process, the applicant is entitled to view his/her file. The administrative and organizational conditions for viewing applicants’ profiles are determined by the dean.

    Information on the admission procedure: THE CONDITIONS ARE VALID FOR STUDY PROGRAMMES CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH

    The admissions procedure starts with a submission of a properly completed application for study and payment of the application fee by 29th February 2024.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
    ● Completion of at least a bachelor’s university degree in any programme/field with a proof provided by 30 September 2024.
    ● Applicants who pass the final exam in the autumn term and the applicants who have to wait for a recognition of their studies abroad (and have not received such document by September 30, 2024) have to present a document about their bachelor’s degree by 22 October 2024.
    ● The applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree from a Czech university have to provide a registered copy of a diploma or an original copy of a proof that they have obtained a bachelor’s degree (in case they still do not have their official diploma). This requirement does not apply to the applicants who have obtained their bachelor’s degree at Charles University.

    ● Pass the admission exam.
    ● All the applicants who obtain at least 50 points (out of 100) at the exam will be accepted.
    ● In case there are only few applicants, the dean can, with the approval of the section subject-area board, waive the admission exam and accept all the applicants who hold the degree required.

    DESCRIPTION OF THE ADMISSION EXAM, POINTS
    ● The exam takes place in two rounds.
    ● The admission exam is held in English.

    First round: (max. 40 points)
    The assessment of the applicants is based on the following documents sent.
    ● Curriculum vitae (10 points),
    ● List of grades (10 points),
    ● Motivation letter (20 points).
    To proceed to the second round, the applicants must obtain at least 25 points.

    Second round: (max. 60 points)
    On-line interview with the applicants about the topics of their chosen study programme (max. 60 points). Subjects and the extent of the examination is described in the overview of the study programmes.


    POINTS AWARDED
    Curriculum vitae - 10 points
    The assessment of all the extracurricular activities, scientific and others.

    Great results – proven participation in scientific activities, documented for example by co-authoring a scientific publication, presenting results at a conference, a recommendation from a leader of a scientific team, proof of participation in a scientific project; activities of popular science activities at national and international level; successful participation at the national level of a subject Olympiad; participation in an international Olympiad specified in the list of criteria (depending on the chosen study programme), other extracurricular activities with a significant national and international impact; 10–8 points

    Sufficient results – proven participation in scientific activities confirmed by a leader of a scientific team, successful participation at the national level of a subject Olympiad specified in the list of criteria (depending on the chosen study programme), activities of popular science at local level, other extracurricular activities with a significant national and local impact; 7–5 points

    Minimum results – the applicant has not proven any of the above-mentioned activities; 4–0 points


    Motivation letter - 20 points
    Readiness of the applicants for the chosen study programme is assessed.

    Convincing motivation – well thought-through motivation which is related to the content of the chosen study programme; 20–15 points

    Partially convincing motivation – relatively thought-through motivation which is partially related to the content of the chosen study programme; 15–10 points

    Not convincing motivation – not prepared or adequate motivation which is not related to the content of the chosen study programme; 10–0 points


    Classification - 10 points
    The grades in the subjects listed during the first two years of studies are assessed (according to the study programme chosen):
    ● Botany: botany (vascular plants, non-vascular plants), ecology and other relevant subjects
    ● Ecology: ecology, evolutionary biology, systematic subjects and other relevant subjects
    ● Demography: four subjects relevant from the point of view of demography, chosen by the admission committee
    ● Geodynamics: geology, petrology, structural geology, geotectonics, geochemistry, mineralogy
    ● Immunology: immunology, cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry
    ● Parasitology and Infection biology: all the courses in biomedicines (e.g., immunology, cell bilogy, microbiology, virology, parasitology, anatomy, physiology)
    The resulting percentual share of the grades “výborně” is divided by 10 and rounded = the result is the number of points on the scale from 0 to 10.
    In case of oral, point or percentual grades, the applicant is obliged to provide a document of conversion of the results issued by their university (or other relevant institution).

    Admission exam - 60 points
    The knowledge, especially in the field of the chosen study programme, is assessed. The exam checks the knowledge of the general knowledge in the field. The topic of the applicant's bachelor thesis is also discussed as well as their ideas about their future master thesis. The admission exam is held in English.

    Information on the admission procedure: The admission procedure is initiated by a completely and correctly filled application and by a payment of the admission fee. Both things must be done by 30th April, 2024.

    CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION
    • The applicants must finish their master studies and provide a confirmation of such no later than on 30th September, 2024. The applicants who take the final state exam in the autumn term and the applicants who are still waiting for recognition of their foreigner diploma on 30th September 2024 will provide the confirmation by 22nd October, 2024.
    The applicants with a diploma from Czech universities will provide an authenticated copy of their diploma or an original confirmation of completion of a master study programme. This is not required from applicants who have completed their studies at Charles University.

    • Successful passing of the entrance exam (unless waived).
    • Applicants will be accepted to study the programme Bioinformatics and computational biology if they obtain a grade "Pass" in each of the three answers to the questions set by the committee.
    • All applicants who obtain at least 50 points out of 100 in the entrance examination will be admitted to study other programmes.

    ENTRANCE EXAM
    Regular date: 10. 6. – 21. 6. 2024
    Alternative date: 24. 6. – 28. 6. 2024

    THE INVITATION for the entrance exam is ONLY sent in electronically through the university’s electronic information system no later than 30 days before the date of the exam. If the faculty sends an invitation for an alternative date of the entrance exam, this deadline may be shortened accordingly.

    Entrance exam on an ALTERNATIVE DATE may be permitted by the dean to candidates who submit a request within three days after the regular exam date. Only serious reasons are grounds for granting an alternative date, particularly health reasons. The request must be sufficiently justified in writing and the circumstances stated in the request must be documented. A second alternative date is not permitted. The request for an alternative day is submitted and approved via the electronic information system.

    A candidate may, for reasons of a physical handicap, including specific learning disorders, request adaptation of the entrance exam. The request must state specific adaptation requirements for the entrance exam and it must be accompanied by a medical report or a statement from a competent professional facility. Decisions on requests are made by the vicedean. The request must be submitted electronically by 5th May 2024. Medical handicap requests made later (e.g. during appeal) cannot be taken into account.

    ● The entrance exam is one round and it consists of one or more parts (as specified for individual study programmes).
    ● Based on a written request submitted via the electronic system of the university, usually after acceptance of the application by the fakulty, but no later than by 5th May 2024, the dean may in case of serious and documented reasons (health, study abroad) allow the entrance examination to be held online.
    ● During the entrance examination the candidate must demonstrate the technical and linguistic skills to study the given field, along with abilities necessary for independent scientific work.
    ● The examination is graded with a maximum of 100 points (except for the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology program). The evaluation may include the quality of the dissertation project, its feasibility and the way of presentation (specified for individual programmes).

    WAIVER OF THE ENTRANCE EXAM
    The entrance examination may be waived based on a request of a candidate who has been accepted for the STARS project in the given academic years.

    ACCESS TO OWN FILE
    After receiving the dean’s decision on the result of the admissions proceeding, the candidate is entitled to access the file. The organizational and administrative conditions for perusal are established by measure of the dean.

    FEE FOR STUDYING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
    A student of a study programme in English is obliged to pay the fee for study in a foreign language set out in Annex 2 of the Statutes of Charles University.
