The position of the work of art as an autonomous system - development towards the beginnings of abstract painting. 5. Dada and other avant-garde movements after World War I. Art as a critical tool and as a means of expression. free form. 6. Bauhaus and the interwar avant-garde. Efforts to merge art with life. New techniques and means of expression. 7. Surrealism - the role of psychological processes, memory, symbol and dream. 8. Existential tendencies in world art around the middle of the 20th century.
