Annotation
Bacteriology: Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, basic characteristic, pathogenicity, therapy and prevention of bacterial infections. Antibiotics: mechanisms of action, resistance, susceptibility testing, rules of ATB therapy and rules on the use. Virology: RNA and DNA viruses, Prions, basic characteristics. The antiviral therapy, the prevention of viral diseases. Mycology: basic characteristics of pathogenic fungi, local and systemic infections, opportunistic infections, mycoses and antifungal therapy. Parasitology: Protozoa, worms, basic characteristics, cycles in nature, in animals and in human population, pathogenicity. Arthropods: causative agents of diseases and vectors. Therapy and prevention of parasitic infections. Basics of clinical microbiology. Nosocomial infections and diseases. Vaccines and principles of immunization. Laboratory methods in microbiology.

Requirements to the exam

REQUIREMENT FOR CREDIT – Summer term

 1.    Attendance:

a.       1 absence allowed (1 absence to practical class = 1 day)

b.       In case of more than 1 absence – student must take an oral examination (without any preparatiory time) on the missed topic by the group teacher

c.       In case of more than 3 absences – an oral examination before an examination committee is required. The individual case must be discussed and approved in advance by the Study Department.

2.    Successful completion of the credit test:

a.       In case of failure of the first attempt, another attempt (obligatory) must be made during the last practical class (same day of the practical exam)

b.       In case of failure of the 2nd attempt – student must pass an oral examination (without any preparatory) time on an assigned topic given by the group teacher 

3.    Practical exam

 CREDIT TEST

1.    WHEN: day before the practical exam

2.    WHERE: in the Moodle. Students are responsible for having access to Moodle.

3.    HOW: 20 multiple choice questions, time to complete: 20 minutes 

4.    RESULT: ≥ 70% to pass

 PRACTICAL EXAM

1.    WHEN: last practical class of the semester

2.    WHERE: MIKRO1 – same room of the practical classes 

3.    HOW: information on the Moodle

4.    RESULT: 1-3, failed

 Practical classes are held at the Faculty Hospital, building 17 – Department of Clinical Microbiology, ground floor
