The doctoral programme in Translation Studies trains students to become experts in the field of translation and interpreting, capable of analysing linguistic and cultural phenomena of the relevant area in a scientific perspective and in relation to the target culture. The programme includes a comprehensive set of study requirements focusing on translation/interpreting theory, research methodology, the cultural and social context of the discipline, its applications, scientific discourse and the ability to present research at international conferences, and, crucially, the student’s independent research work.

Graduates are highly qualified specialists in the field of Translation Studies, capable of analysing linguistic and cultural phenomena of the relevant area in a scientific perspective and in relation to the target culture, while placing them in an international, social and historical context. They are familiar with research methodology used in humanities, including the ability to critically analyse information resources. The graduates’ theoretical and application-oriented competences reach beyond the conventional framework of language and literature studies, and include number of interdisciplinary aspects of translation and interpreting (cultural, social, training-oriented, cognitive and technological, among others).
