SP characteristics

The study program Global migration and development studies provides a theoretical knowledge and practical skills for those who are deeply interested in issues like international development, international migration, foreigners´ integration and related problems. A special attention is paid to putting topical problems into a context of long-term changes of the global system. New challenges and needs related to a growing interconnection of the current world with an increasing importance of global processes for local and regional development are reflected. At the same time, this program reflects a growing demand for this type of study specialisation. The study is closely linked with traditional geographical disciplines (namely, political and economic geography, population geography, regional geography and regional development) and it is situated on the borderline between environmental and social sciences. In fact, it is an interdisciplinary master program (interlinking topics studied in different disciplines, faculties and universities) which enables an interesting opportunity to continue to study for those who have finished their bachelor degree in various fields of social, natural or environmental disciplines. Graduates of this programme should find their place in practice both at home and abroad. They have also an opportunity to deepen their knowledge while studying doctoral programs within geography, international development studies etc. Successful students know theories and concepts which are related to the given issues, they are able to apply their independent analytical thinking, they can choose and, consequently, apply adequate analytical qualitative and quantitative methods and they know how to interpret and synthesize results. A practical training and colloquium with invited domestic and foreign experts - with those who represent “practice“ as well as academic researchers - is a part of the study. The study is completed with a state final exam and a defence of a diploma thesis. Gained practical skills may be applied to designing conceptions, managing and evaluating projects that are focused upon development cooperation issues and international development and education, integration of immigrants into host societies etc. …
