The aim of the course is to acquaint students with sports physiotherapy as one of the possible specialities in internationally. Then give an overview of the possibilities of physiotherapy intervention in sport. Aim of the practical training is to acquire knowledge and especially skills of athletes of selected sports in the application procedures analyzing causes, possibilities of injury, as well as preventive and therapeutic procedures for the most common problems associated with these activities. Emphasis is also placed on the possibilities of physiotherapy intervention common, sporting populations at different ages.

Learning Outcomes:

The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge, the skills and the general competencies so that after the completion of the course the students:

  • demonstrates the ability to orient in the possibilities of physiotherapeutic intervention in sports, both at the professional and amateur level, at different ages
  • demonstrates the ability to apply procedures analyzing the causes and possibilities of injury in selected sports
  • demonstrates the ability to apply preventive and therapeutic procedures for the most common problems related to the sports activities

1. Physiotherapy in sport - characteristics, introduction to the subject

2. Characteristics of selected sports activities - physiological, biomechanical aspects, general principles of physiotherapy in sport, distribution of injuries and their solutions, sport orthotics

3. Functional diagnostics of musculoskeletal system in athletes from the perspective of physiotherapist; timely assessment of sports prerequisites.

4. Sports injuries - possibilities and limitations of physiotherapist's work

5. Most frequent disability, overload in selected sports activities;; hypermobility in sport

6. Influence the performance of the athlete by using physiotherapeutic techniques and methods

7. Physiotherapeutic intervention in sportsman training; sporting population - possibilities of physiotherapeutic intervention

8. Physiotherapy in volleyball, rugby, whitewater slalom

9. Physiotherapy in softball, ice hockey

10. Physiotherapy in athletics and biathlon

11. Physiotherapy in downhill skiing

12. Physiotherapy in sport climbing and triathlon

13. Physiotherapy in tennis and golf

14. Physiotherapy in martial arts
