The course discusses philosophical research methods and topics, focussing mainly on the nature of philosophical enquiry in different philosophical traditions, theories of ontology, the person, ethics and politics. General philosophical issues include: the nature of scientific enquiry, research motivation, philosophy of science and of the social sciences, the necessity of conceptual rigour, logic and the construction of arguments. Specific philosophical issues will be considered as case studies, with choice of issues depending on student need.
