Kurs podává v minimálním možném rozsahu přehled mineralogie a petrologie, od krystalu jako formy výskytu minerálů přes vlastní minerály až k jejich směsím - horninám. Důraz je kladen na poznávání minerálů a hornin a na pochopení jejich významu pro člověka. Je určen studentům učitelství přírodovědných oborů vyjma geologie.
