Kurz začne 14.10.2013,15:40h-18:40h, Mineralogická posluchárna, 1. patro vpravo a bude každé pondělí.

Because I am up to the 1st October week about 500 km W from Praha (Waldhilsbach near Heidelberg, Germany) and in Praha I should be since the October 7, I can print the Textbook and other infos by my color laser printer in Germany only, please register early, so long I will be in Germany.
The course will start on October 14, 2013, 15:40h - 18:40h, Mineralogical classroom, 2nd floor, to the right, and will meet every Monday.
The course will focus on the geological aspects of planetary solid bodies, including their atmospheres, because they were formed mostly by geological processes. I will gladly consider suggestions of the students to deal with special topics, provided they support the scope of the course. Please understand that a change of the course topics is possible only if presented at the first meeting. Both written exams will be multiple choice: the 1st one after Chapter 5, the 2nd one during the last meeting. All information, such as the Textbook and Test Themes, are available on my web already now; then, and then during the course.
This course may be presented, upon wish anytime in English, Czech or German.

Poslední úprava: prof. Dr. Jiří Březina, CSc. (22.09.2016)
1. Věda, měření a jednotky
2. fyzikální základy
3. metody pozorování
4. Sluneční soustava
5. planety typu Země a jejich satelity („měsíce“)
6. planety typu Jupiter, jejich prstence a satelity („měsíce“)
7. asteroidy (menší planety)
8. transneptunovy objekty: Kuiperův pás "Plutinos", komety, van Oortův oblak
9. meteoroidy a meziplanetární prach
10. exoplanety
11. vznik Sluneční soustavy, Slunce, klasifikace, vznik, vývoj a zánik hvězd.
Při tom se zaměříme především na geologické aspekty pevných objektů včetně jejich atmosféry, protože ta vzniká většinou geologickými procesy.
Kurz bude doplněn praktiky:
Úvod do typů astronomických teleskopů (čočky a zrcadla: viz kapitola 9, str. 55-60): refrakční, reflekční, kombinace.
Meziplanetární let: planetární oběhy a jejich doby. Užijte Keplerův třetí zákon pro srovnání doby oběhu a průměrné vzdálenosti planety od Slunce. (Hohmannovy) přenosové oběhy (kosmické lodi). Viz: Hohman Transfer Orbit .
Součástí kurzu je i pozorování hvězdné oblohy a terénní cvičení: Definice souhvězdí a nebeské koule: nebeská koule, zenit (nadhlavník), obzor, úhlová výška, azimut, zeměpisná šířka, zeměpisná délka, nebeské poly, nebeský rovník, magnituda vs. světelnost. Pohyb hvězd: na obloze se všechny hvězdy pohybují zemskou rotací kolem osy, na severní polokouli proti směru hodinových ručiček vyjma Severky (Polárky).
The discovery of extrasolar planets (exoplanets) and so called orphan planets in our galaxy sets the definition of a planet in contrast to its etymology as a small relatively cool orbiter - it extends now to extrasolar and "freely" floating bodies. The term "free floating" means, of course, a gravitational orbiting around the galactic center. The relative coolness of these exoplanetary objects means temperatures without nuclear fusion., We will probably continue to call the larger of them "the brown dwarfs". The exoplanets apparently meet the classic frequency models of variously massive universe bodies (J. C. KAPTEYN, 1903, 1916). Even according to the newest models and observations, we expect that the number of orphans must be at least twice as many as the number of stars.
The course consists of 11 chapters:
1. Science, measurement and units
2. Physical backgrounds
3. Methods of observation
4. Solar system
5. Planets of the type Earth and their satellites
6. Planets of the type Jupiter, their rings and satellites
7. Asteroids (minor planets)
8. Transneptunian objects: Kuiper‘s belt "Plutinos", comets, van Oort cloud
9. Meteoroids and interplanetary dust
10. Exoplanets
11. Origin of the Solar system, Sun, clasification, origin, evolution and death of stars.
We will focus on the geological aspects of the solid bodies, including their atmospheres, because they have formed mostly by geological processes .
This course will be accompanied by a Lab:
Introduction to Astronomical Telescopes: (lenses & mirrors - see chapter 9, p. 55 - 60):
Types: refracting, reflecting, and combinations.
Mountings: altazimuth mounting (no polar axis available), equatorial (German) mounting, fork mounting, equatorial (English) mounting, and yoke mounting.
Accessories: eyepieces, camera, finder telescope, clock drive, slow motion controls, setting circles, solar observing screen, filters, photometers, spectroscopes, polarimeters, filar micrometers, and image tubes.
Interplanetary travel: planetary orbits & periods. Use Kepler’s third law to relate orbital period to the average distance of a planet from the Sun. (Hohmann) Transfer orbits (of a spacecraft). See: http://www.nasa.gov/basics/bsf4-1.html .
The course will also include observation of the sky and a field trip.
Definitions of constellations & the celestial sphere: celestial sphere, zenith, horizon, altitude, azimuth, latitude, longitude, celestial poles, celestial equator, and magnitude vs. brightness.
Motion of the Stars: all stars in the sky, except Polaris, move due to the Earth’s rotation - counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere when seen from north.
