Kurs se pokusí: podat stručný přehled o dějinách západního filosofického myšlení a předložit k diskuzi vybraná filosofická témata, která se dotýkají lékařské problematiky v širším slova smyslu. Přehled dějin filosofie seznámí s jejich hlavními etapami od antiky až po současnost; vybrané tematické otázky se budou týkat např. původu a povahy západní racionality, lidské svobody a vzniku moderní vědy.

The course will give a brief overview of the history of Western philosophical thinking as well as present in form of discussion selected philosophical topics which affect the medical issues in the wider sense. The overview of the history of philosophy will make students familiar with its main stages from antiquity to the present. The selected thematic issues will concern on problems such as origin and nature of Western rationality, human freedom and the emergence of modern science.

Cílem předmětu je probudit smysl pro dějinný a intelektuální kontext, ze kterého vyrostlo pojetí západního lékařství, které se opírá o racionální způsob myšlení a metodiku moderních věd. Cílem je rovněž kritické vědomí jak možností, tak mezí západního pojetí racionality.

The course is aiming to awaken a sense for historical and intellectual context from which grew the concept of Western medicine, which is based on a rational way of thinking and methodology of modern sciences. But the aim is also to investigate critically both, the possibilities and limits of the Western concept of rationality.

2. Předsokratické období ? problém kontinua jako konflikt nekonečna (života, pohybu, prostoru, času) s konečnem (pojmového myšlení).
3. Období klasické (Sokrates, Platon, Aristoteles) a helenistické filosofie ? konflikt smyslového a nadsmyslového světa.
4. Filosofie v období Středověku: rozum ve službách víry?
