Předmět poskytuje studentům teoretický a metodologický úvod do herních studií. Kriticky analyzuje médium počítačových her a zabývá se jejich širšími kulturními, společenskými a politickými aspekty. Mezi probíraná témata patří teorie herních studií, historie počítačových her, metody analýzy počítačových her a jejich sociální a psychologické aspekty. Cílem předmětu je rozvinout kritické porozumění širší role počítačových her ve společnosti a schopnost samostatného výzkumu. Předmět je vyučován v anglickém jazyce.

The course provides students with theoretical and methodological introduction to game studies. It critically analyzes video games and explore their broader cultural, social, and political aspects. The topics of the course include game studies theory, history of video games, methods of video game analysis, and social and psychological aspects of gaming. The course aims to develop students' ability to critically reflect video games as a sociocultural phenomenon and conduct team-based research projects. The course is taught in English.

10 % team formation & research proposal submission 10% team-project midterm consultation 40 % team-project presentation 40 % team-project final paper (cca 16,000 characters, Game Studies style) -10% late submission (deadline = 23:59 CET)
