Description of the Study Unit
The aims of the student unit are that the student:
- understands the diversity of phenomena which social policy and social work address
- is able to analyse the basis of social policy and social welfare in promoting health and well being, participation
and social justice and overcoming social pathology
- is familiar with the different definitions of welfare, related to history and diverse contexts
- is able to differentiate the range of ‘welfare regimes’ and how these affect the context and practice social service
and diaconal work
- Is familiar with the legal framework for social work and welfare in the Czech Republic and the European Union
- is familiar with the basics of the welfare state in the Czech Republic and their own/another national context

The content of the study unit includes:
- Basic social policy (scope and aims)
- Definitions of health and welfare
- Legal basis of welfare and social work in the Czech Republic and the European Union
- Welfare regimes in a global context
- Structure of the welfare state in the Czech Republic and their own or another national context

Process of the Study Unit
Week 6-7 (1, 5 cr.)

Assignment: Get acquainted with the welfare state of Czech Republic or of the context where the student is based
