Geriatrics- stage for english speaking students 5 th year

Dear student colleagues,

in a few weeks we will welcome you in our Department of Geriatrics. Here are some information for you.

Below you find your classes schedule for geriatric module for the winter semester.

All classes take place in our Department of Geriatrics, Londynska 15, Prague 2 (seminars - 4th floor, cloakroom - basement). Please bring your ID, stethoscope and white coat.

To give you the possibility to be involved and discuss geriatric topics you will be asked to give a short presentation on selected topic. You can select any clinical geriatric topic and can discuss the choice with your teacher on Monday. At the end of every day programme, student´s presentations followed by class discussion are scheduled. I would recommend that each topic is presented by 2-3 students. Please bring your presentation in ppt format (15-20 slides e.g. about 15 minutes). This arrangement will help students to take active part and understand the selected topic more deeply. You also will improve your skills in presenting new medical knowledge. Distribution of topics among your class members I leave up to your preferences. Recommended topics to be presented involve but are not limited to nutrition in the elderly, cardiac diseases (heart failure, management of atrial fibrillation, hypertension),osteoporosis, medication management and medication appropriateness, insomnia, chronic wound treatment, constipation, sarcopenia, incontinence, infections in old age.

We recommend to you following resources - professional scientific journals Age and Ageing, European Geriatric Medicine, Clinical Interventions in Aging, Drugs and Aging … or other resources from websites of British or American Geriatric Societies, or guidelines

With best regards

prof. Eva Topinková, MD, PhD
