The subject deals with assessment of organism´s response to physical exercise, provides explanation of the effect of physical exercise regimen on prevention and progress of non-infectious chronic diseases; influence of particular physical activities on growth and development of the human organism, pathologic conditions, sports orthopaedics and traumatology.

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basics of the field, especially the relationship between health and physical activity/sport, and the importance of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of diseases.

Learning Outcomes:

Student - graduate of the course:

  • Describes and explains the importance of the athlete's preventive physical examination and physical therapy monitoring.
  • Describe the types and benefits of cardiovascular screening.
  • List the types and summarize the benefits of stress testing. Describe spiroergometry in basic terms
  • Interpret the basic principles and importance of exercise prescription in cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic and musculoskeletal diseases
  • Explains the specifics of sports activity for women, children, and the elderly.
  • Describes and interprets the benefits and risks of sport and physical activity, and defines the terms sudden death in sport, sports heart, injury, and chronic impairment in sport. Summarizes the risks of sport in extreme conditions.
  • Explains the principles of recovery. Define doping and summarise the health risks.
