The subject represents the history and current direction of the concepts of support for people with disabilities on the level of contemporary knowledge. It focuses mainly on the following topics: Establishment and development of special education as a scientific field with its interdisciplinary links. People with disabilities and their special needs with an emphasis on traditional and newly assigned target groups of special education. Socialization from the historical perspective. Integration and inclusion as a process. Legal awareness and disadvantaged people with an emphasis on the development of standards related to education, training and social care. Discrimination and anti-discrimination. UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Non-governmental non-profit organizations as a way to humanization and diversity of services for people with disabilities. Palliative care and development of hospice facilities in the Czech Republic.
