The course aims to provide the student with information about the position of cosmetic products in health care and their differentiation from medicinal products, medical devices, and food supplements. The listener will get acquainted with selected types of cosmetic products, their production, and their use. The course graduate should acquire basic knowledge of the composition, classes, and methods of use of cosmetic products. The graduate will also be able to determine the basic procedures for the care of the skin, its derivatives, and the oral cavity from the perspective of a cosmetologist.

1. Introduction to cosmetology for pharmacists

o   the position of cosmetic products among other products in the health sector,

o   definition of cosmetic products (legislation, labeling, claims),

o   analysis of the terms conventional and natural cosmetics/organic cosmetics,

o   excipients and active substances of cosmetic products.

2. Cosmetic products for dental and oral care

o   cosmetological aspects arising from the morphology and (pathophysiology) of the oral cavity,

o   technology and classification of kinds of toothpaste, mouthwashes, mouth deodorants, and lip balms,

o   proper handling of cosmetic products and the principles of dental hygiene.

3. Skin as a target of application of cosmetic products

o   morphology and physiology of the skin,

o   epidermis and skin barrier,

o   define the use of dermo-cosmetic products,

o   skin components affecting the effect of dermocosmetics.

4. Cosmetic products for washing and cleansing the skin

o   uncleanliness of the skin and its origin, pollution factors,

o   deep cleansing of the skin,

o   technology and classification of washing and cleaning products (soaps, lotions/tonics, cleansing/face masks),

o   proper handling of cosmetic products for washing/cleansing the skin.

5. Cosmetic products for pathophysiological skin changes

o   skin typology and skin classification from a cosmetological point of view,

o   professional approach to specific skin types (normal, oily, dry, sensitive skin),

o   technology and classification of moisturizing cosmetics, oily/acne-prone and pediatric skin products,

o   skin aging and technology and classification of cosmetic products for aging skin.

6. Sunscreen cosmetics

o   skin pigment melanin, characterization, and importance of UV radiation on the human body and skin,

o   phototype, sunbathing, protection factor,

o   technology and classification of cosmetic products limiting exposure to UV radiation,

o   proper handling of sunscreen cosmetic products.

7. Cosmetic products in hair, beard and nail care

o   cosmetological aspects arising from the morphology and (pathophysiology) of hair,

o   technology and classification of cosmetic products in hair/beard/nail care (hair shampoos, conditioners, hair masks and tonics, beard balms, nail polishes),

o   depilatories and shaving products,

o   proper handling of hair cosmetic products.

8. Cosmetic products against perspiration and body odor

o   cosmetological aspects arising from the morphology and (pathophysiology) of sweat glands,

o   sweat, sweating and its significance, hyperhidrosis,

o   technology and classification of antiperspirants and deodorants, cosmetic preparations in intimate hygiene,

o   proper handling of cosmetic products against sweating.

9. Cosmetic products in dermatology

o   cosmetological aspects arising from the pathophysiology of selected skin manifestations (burns/frostbite, skin wounds, scars, stretch marks, warts, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, tattoos, cellulite, pigment spots),

o   technology and classification of cosmetic products for selected skin manifestations, including their proper handling.
