Annotation -
The course Pharmaceutical Technology II (PT II) directly follows the courses Physical principles of Dosage Forms and Pharmaceutical Technology I. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the manufacture of technologically demanding dosage forms, advanced dosage forms, and drug delivery systems with modified drug release. The course focuses on excipients used in advanced dosage forms and drug delivery systems, their formulation and stabilization, and methods for evaluating the quality of advanced dosage forms and drug delivery systems. The practical training focuses on the extemporaneous preparation of pharmaceutical products and directly builds on the knowledge acquired in Pharmaceutical Technology I. The seminar classes aim to further develop students’ knowledge and skills in the extemporaneous preparation of medicinal products, including the preparation of sterile dosage forms.

Course completion requirements -

The course Pharmaceutical Technology II is completed by a course credit and an examination. To obtain the course credit, students must fulfil the following requirements:

  • 100% attendance at practical trainings and seminars. In the case of an excused absence, the form of compensation will be determined by the respective teacher .
  • Proper completion and maintenance of records from the practical classes.
  • Successful completion of the individual teaching blocks:
    • The practical trainings are completed by passing a test during the final practical class and by preparing one randomly selected medicinal product. The partial course-credit test consists of questions with one correct answer. Each test contains 30 questions, and students have 30 minutes to complete it. To successfully fulfil this requirement, students must achieve at least 75% correct answers (22points). If a student fails to achieve the required number of points, they must retake the test at a designated date. If the student fails to achieve the required number of points on the third attempt as well, they will be examined by a committee consisting of at least two instructors. If the committee determines that the student’s knowledge is insufficient, the course credit will not be awarded, and the student will have to enrol in the course again in the following academic year.
    • The seminars are completed by passing a test after all seminars have been completed. The test consists of multiple-choice questions. Each test contains 30 questions, and students have 30 minutes to complete it. To successfully fulfil this requirement, students must achieve at least 75% correct answers (22 points).

The examination in this core pharmaceutical discipline is written and covers topics from Pharmaceutical Technology I and Pharmaceutical Technology II. Successful completion of the examination also requires knowledge of the course Physical Principles of Dosage Forms. The examination test consists of questions with one correct answer. Each test contains 60 questions, and students have 75 minutes to complete it. To pass the examination, students must achieve at least 70% correct answers (42 points).

A second retake of the exam (following a repeated enrollment) is conducted in a combined format before a committee of at least two members. This exam always consists of a written test followed immediately by an oral component.
