The short view of the epidemiology and prevention of infection diseases. Basic of communal hygiene and of drinking and waste water. Water as a source of infection. Training in parasitology (microscopy and identification of parasites). Selected topics in virology, bacteriology and mycology. Emerging infections in general (Anthrax, Cholera, Tularemia…), biohazard, bioterrorism.

Lectures

  1. General Epidemiology. Basic epidemiological terms. Personal and social hygiene - prevention of infectious diseases.
  2. Waste, hazardous waste and communal hygiene. Water - source of infection. Drinkingwater treatment and wastewater treatment. 
  3. Blood stream infections. Sepsis.
  4. Infectious diseases in the era of global warming.
  5. Biohazard. Bioterrorisms. Emerging infections in general ( Antrax, Yersinia pestis, Vibrio cholerae, Francisella tularensis,..)

Practical classes

  1.  Virology - Viral hepatitis - differential  diagnostics. Viral emerging infections (dengue, ebola, marburg fever…) HIV - review.   praktikum
  2.  Mycology - Epidemiology, laboratory diagnostics and the management of endemic mycoses.   praktikum
  3.  Parasitology - blood parasites - theory and laboratory diagnostics (malaria, sleeping sickness, microphilaria, , babesia sp.)+ clinical cases. partI.  praktikum
  4.  Parasitology - blood and tissue parasites -theory and laboratory diagnostics - Leishmania sp.,tissue parasites, Toxoplasma gondii, Toxocara canis. Pathogenic spirochetes + clinical cases. partII.  praktikum
  5.  Parasitology - intestinal parasites, Entamoeba , Giardia, Balantidium ,other pathogenic protozoa and helminths in the GIT. Diagnostics, prevention,therapy + clinical case. CREDIT TEST.  praktikum
