The course enables an understanding of the basic developmental and thematic processes in twentieth-century Czech literature. It is based on the principle of synchronic cuts on a diachronic background. It is not about the traditional creation of chronological units that attempt to cover diverse processes and areas of literary development within a limited time period, but about the creation of thematically focused units that follow basic themes or basic functions, that have influenced and are influencing the shape of Czech literature not only in the short term, but also create basic developmental lines that vary in different historical contexts throughout the twentieth century and thus create the long-term specificity of Czech literature in the context of world literature. The aim of the course is to enable students to understand enduring or longer-term processes in the history of literature, but also, indirectly, in the history of Czech society. Students should thus gain an understanding of the more complex structure of art (they will not perceive literature as a separate field) and at the same time they should gain knowledge of the processes that have shaped and are shaping the current shape of the world (literary, cultural and social) in which they live and which find their expression in or through literature. Thus, through this course, the history of literature will become a specific tool of knowledge that leads to national and individual self-reflection, thus demonstrating the didactic potential of the topic.

student je schopen porozumět vztahu mezi literaturou a společností, uvědomuje si principy vnitřního vývoje literatury a jejího vývoje jako součásti společenské struktury či kulturního pole. Je schopen aplikovat nástroje textové analýzy na konkrétní literární texty, a interpretovat je jako součást historické a společenské situaceia jako součást literární řady. Je schopen rozpoznat tematickou výstavbu konkrétního textu a pochopit význam textu pro rozvoj kritického myšlení o textu, textových tématech i o společenských či dějinných strukturách, které text označuje. díky seminářům je student schopen charakterizovat literární text, vysvětlit jeho formání a tematickou výstavbu, analyzovat sémantickou strukturu a argumentovat význam textu, je schopen kriticky vyhodnotit svoji analýzu a navrhnout celkovou tematickou interpretaci. V kooperaci s přednáškami je schopen postihnout vzájemně podmiňující vztah mezi literaturou a společností, rozpoznat zákonitosti vývoje poetiky i principy porušení těchto zákonitostí. získává dovednost vnímat literaturu jako prostředek k poznání dějin společnosti, i schopnost kritického uvažování o jejich alternativách a pluralitě výkladových rámců, s nimž můžeme k událostem (literární artefaktům) přistupovat.
