The participants will pass an examination, consisting both of a written and an oral part. Active participation in lessons (max. 3 absences during the semester) and successful passing of ordinary tests are required for admission to the examination. Successful passing of the written part (morphology, syntax, vocabulary, translation of an unknown Latin text in the extent of 1,800 characters) is a prerequisite for admission to the oral part (translation and interpretation of chosen texts in the extent of 18,000 characters). The participants will pass a concluding examination. Active participation in lessons (max. 3 absences during the semester), successful passing of ordinary tests and successful passing of the final test (morphology, syntax, vocabulary) are required for admission to the examination. The examination consists of a written and an oral part. Successful passing of the written part (translation of an unknown Latin text) is a prerequisite for admission to the oral part (translation and interpretation of texts in the minimal extent of 18,000 characters). The final grade will reflect the quality of the student's work during the semester (especially active participation in classes and success rate in ordinary tests), the result of the final test, and the result of both parts of the examination (oral and written). The final test checks knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar covered in KJAZ058 Latin 1 (Morphology), KJAZ059 Latin 2 (Morphology), KJAZ060 Latin 3 (Syntax) and KJAZ061 Latin 4 (Syntax). In the WRITTEN part of the examination, the student translates an unknown Latin text; a Latin-Czech dictionary (preferably Pražák-Novotný-Sedláček) is a permitted aid. The starting material for the ORAL part is a corpus of texts of at least 18,000 characters, approved by the examiner. In this part of the examination, after a short preparation and without a dictionary, the student will demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and the ability to apply this knowledge in the interpretation of the text. For an overview of the required grammatical competence, see the syllabus. The corpus of texts must include the following time or genre areas: patristic (at least 1,800 characters), medieval (at least 1,800 characters), modern (at least 1,800 characters), biblical or liturgical text (at least 1,800 characters), classical Roman literature (2nd century BC - 2nd century AD, at least 1,800 characters), quantitative poetry (at least 10 verses), syllabotonic or syllabic poetry (at least 10 verses). A reliable ability to read an unknown Latin text fluently and correctly is required and tested during the oral part of the examination. The corpus of texts chosen for the oral part of the examination must be submitted for approval no later than one month after the beginning of the semester in which the examination is scheduled.
