This course is aimed at students who wish to develop a level of competence in contemporary Czech language sufficient for communication and comprehension of A1 level according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The appropriate skills of listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in Czech are covered. The course focuses on building vocabulary and grammatical structures. Communication skills are the immediate focus of the course, and students will work toward reading, understanding and discussing simple Czech texts as the semester progresses.

Tento kurz je určen studentům, kteří si chtějí osvojit úroveň znalosti současného českého jazyka dostatečnou pro komunikaci a porozumění na úrovni A1 podle Společného evropského referenčního rámce pro jazyky. Kurz zahrnuje příslušné dovednosti v oblasti poslechu s porozuměním, mluvení, čtení a psaní v češtině. Zaměřuje se na budování slovní zásoby a gramatických struktur. Komunikační dovednosti jsou hlavním zaměřením kurzu a studenti budou v průběhu semestru pracovat na čtení, porozumění a diskusi o jednoduchých českých textech.

Aim of the course
Students A1 objectives are understanding and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. They can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they have. They can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Course completion requirements
Výsledná známka se skládá z několika dílčích hodnocení, z nichž každá část je ohodnocována zvlášť následnou vahou:
Final test – 55 bodů
Docházka – 15 bodů (během semestru jsou akceptovány dvě neomluvené absence)
Účast na 3 průběžných testech – 20 bodů
Aktivita v lekci a plnění zadání domácích úkolů – 10 bodů
Celkem tedy student může získat v předmětu max. 100 bodů.
The final grade consists of several partial assessments, each part of which is evaluated separately with the following weight:
Final test – 55 points
Attendance – 15 points (two unexcused absences are accepted within a semester)
Progress tests (1-3) - 20 points
Activity in the lesson and completion of homework assignments – 10 points
In total, a student can earn a maximum of 100 points in the subject.

Use of generative AI tools:
The use and citation of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT or MS Copilot) in seminar papers and other coursework must comply with the decrees of the IMS Director No. 7/2023 and 9/2023.
Generative AI tools may be used unless explicitly prohibited by the instructor. However, they may not be used to generate substantial sections of the text or replace the student’s own intellectual contribution. The student remains fully responsible for any content generated with assistance of AI tools.
Presenting AI-generated content, whether verbatim, rephrased, or only slightly modified, as one’s own work constitutes plagiarism.
Every submitted paper must include a transparent statement specifying which generative AI tools were used, in which stage of the work they were employed, and how they were used, or confirming that no generative AI tools were used. If this statement is missing or incomplete, the instructor is not permitted to accept the paper for evaluation.
Unless the instructor explicitly prohibits the use of generative AI tools, the decision to use or not to use them rests fully with the student. The student has the right to request that the instructor does not use AI assistance for evaluating their work.
