Annotation
Epidemiology, early detection and prevention of malignant diseases. Basic principles of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted biological therapy, immunotherapy, supportive and palliative care. Therapy by cancer type.

Acquisiton of theoretical knowledge of clinical and radiation oncology

Requirements to the exam

Credit: The credit is given to the students who has attended at least 80% of lectures and 80% of practical classes. In selected cases longer absence can be substituted by special consultation and examination by the head of the department.

Lectures:

Effects of ionizing radiation on tumor and healthy tissue

External beam radiotherapy - planning, fractionation

Biological and immunological treatment

Adverse effects of systemic anticancer therapy (hematotoxicity, nephro- and neurotoxicity, GIT toxicity, etc.)

Chemotherapy and hormonal treatment

Breast cancer

Gastrointestinal tumors - esophagus, stomach, colorectal cancer, anus

Prostate, blander, penis and testicular tumors

Gynecological tumors – uterine corpus, ovaries

Gynecological tumors – vulva, vagina, uterine cervix

Head and neck cancer

Sarcomas and tumors of endocrine glands

CNS tumors

Metastases from an unknown primary source; Rare tumors

Kidney tumors and malignant melanoma

Skin tumors (excluding melanoma). Non-cancerous radiotherapy

Gastrointestinal tumors - liver, bile ducts, neuroendocrine tumors

Brachytherapy

Practicals:

The purpose of practicals is the teaching with participation of the patients. The students are divided into groups of 5 students. The students obtain the patients history, they perform the examination and suggest the treatment. The patients are discussed during following seminar. The discussion starts with the particular patient and is directed to general issues of his diagnosis, treatment and treatment of side effects.
