The sixth year is mainly practice-oriented. Students are prepared for the state examination during the academic year at the University Hospital Hradec Kralove and in various hospitals across the country or abroad. Students have the opportunity to test and deepen their knowledge and skills in real-time operations. By combining theoretical and practical instruction, in addition to a deep theoretical knowledge, students acquire clinical experience, knowledge and competence from which they will not only benefit in their professional career but also in their lives. Two groups will be created in the year, which will alternate during the academic year.

Credit

  • Credit will be obtained by completing a 7-week internship in various surgical departments in hospitals.
  • Make sure to fill in the logbooks properly. Each mandatory or recommended procedure should be recorded with the specified date and the name of the doctor who performed it with you. The logbook on the workplace page must also include the name of the doctor, a large stamp and his signature from all the clinics where you will complete your internship.
  • The final seminar is mandatory for students practicing at the FN HK.
  • At the end of the seminar, you will be awarded credit for your practice based on the entries in the logbook. If the logbook is not filled in correctly, it will not be possible to give a credit.

It is not possible to register for the SZK without registering a credit from the practical experience.

Practice at FNHK

  • A credit will be given on a base of 100% attendance. Students must notify the Academic Department of Surgery of an any absence in a timely manner. The head of the department decides how the missed exercise will be replaced.

The student independently selects a surgical bed facility in which they will complete their mandatory pre-state exam internship. This can also include specialized surgical departments, but the student must be exposed to general or abdominal surgery for at least two weeks during this internship.

The student must inform the academic department about the location where they plan to carry out the mandatory pre-state exam internship no later than August 31st (applies to second-run students) or January 31st (applies to first-run students) of the relevant academic year.

The reported practice location (both within the Czech Republic and abroad) is binding and cannot be changed. A change will only be possible in case of serious reasons based on a request submitted to the academic department.

If the student does not confirm a place by the set deadline and does the internship abroad and does not provide prior consent of the foreign workplace, the guarantor has the right not to recognize the internship in part or in whole.

If the student intends to undertake the internship abroad, they must first have an approved request to carry out the internship abroad. Subsequently, they must provide signed consent from the foreign institution no later than 21 days before the start of the internship. The document must specify the healthcare facility and specialities involved.

We recommend that students who will practice abroad be exposed to abdominal surgery for at least two weeks of practice.

If the student does not confirm any location within the specified period, it cannot be assumed that they will automatically be allowed to complete the internship at the university hospital (FN HK). It is possible that, due to capacity reasons, only an alternative internship period outside the scheduled timetable will be available, which may result in the student being unable to participate in the state examination in the regular schedule.

Suppose the student does not confirm any location within the specified period and completes the internship abroad without prior consent from the foreign institution, the supervisor has the right to wholly or partially reject the internship.
