Annotation -
This course offers students a unique opportunity to deepen and reinforce their knowledge of macroscopic anatomy through hands-on dissection of human bodies or body parts. The goal is to develop manual skills in dissection, understand the topographical relationships between anatomical structures, and apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world context. Students will work in small groups under the guidance of experienced anatomists and will have the opportunity to focus on specific regions (e.g., head and neck, thorax, limbs, etc.) based on their interests. The course is particularly suitable for students interested in surgery, pathology, anatomy, or any field requiring detailed knowledge of the human body.

Aim of the course -
  • To teach students basic dissection techniques and principles of safe cadaver handling

  • To deepen theoretical knowledge of anatomy through practical dissection

  • To improve understanding of spatial relationships between anatomical structures

  • To develop the ability to describe and identify anatomical structures on cadaveric specimens

  • To promote clinical reasoning through the application of anatomical knowledge

Teaching methods -

The course is taught in the form of an intensive practical block during winter exam period (from 02/02 to 04/02, between 1pm and 5pm). Emphasis is placed on active student participation and independent work with cadaveric material.

Teaching methods include:

  • Practical dissection: Students perform dissection on an assigned specimen, individually or in small groups (typically 2–3 students per specimen).

  • Demonstration and instruction: Dissection techniques, structure identification, and methodological steps are demonstrated by the instructor or supervisor and subsequently applied by the students.

  • Case-based learning: Anatomical observations are linked with their clinical significance through discussions of model cases.

  • Group collaboration: Team coordination in working on a shared specimen, sharing findings, and presenting anatomical structures.

  • Final presentation/dissection report: Summary of the dissection, documentation (photographic, written), and description of key structures with an emphasis on topographical relationships.

The block format allows students to fully concentrate on dissection, develop practical skills, and gain deeper insight into functional and clinical anatomy.

Syllabus -
  • Introductory block: Safety procedures, ethics of cadaver work, dissection tools and techniques

  • Dissection of selected specimen: Dissection of a specific topographical region or body part based on student preference

  • Topographical relationships and clinical correlation: Discussion of selected structures in the context of clinical anatomy

  • Final evaluation of the specimen: Documentation and presentation of dissection results

Course registration requirements -
  • Completion of the course Structure and Function of the Human Body

    • Second-year students must have completed Dissection course of Winter Semester

  • Basic knowledge of macroscopic human anatomy

  • Active interest in hands-on learning and adherence to hygiene and ethical standards in working with human remains
