Annotation -
The course focuses on mastering the Czech medical terminology which is crucial for history taking in patients with various symptoms and diseases. Emphasis is put on improving pronunciation in the active part of the interview and developing listening comprehension. Students also work with Czech case studies and medical documentation. Communication with patients is practiced in the Simulation Centre.

Aim of the course -

Students will learn how to take general medical history of Czech-speaking patients in a structured and systematic way in different types of diseases and complaints. Likewise, they should be able to ask questions, and understand  patient's answers. Students are able to work with Czech case studies and basic medical documentation.

Requirements to the exam -

Credit for the Winter Semester

Credit is awarded based on the fulfilment of the following criteria:

1.      Successful completion of two partial tests (midterm + final) on the Moodle 3 platform, each with a score of at least 70%.

2.      Attendance: a maximum of 3 absences per semester

3.      No retakes are allowed for the in-semester tests, regardless of the reason for absence or failure.

If any of the above conditions are not met, the student may obtain credit only by:

·         successfully passing a comprehensive credit test (minimum score 70%),

·         the credit test can only be taken if the minimum attendance requirement (5 sessions) is fulfilled

·         students have a maximum of three attempts during the exam period.

Organizational Note on Credit Tests

It is not permitted to take the credit tests for the winter and summer semesters within a single examination date. Each credit test is scheduled for its own examination date.

Final Oral Exam Requirements The oral exam consists of two parts:

  1. Analysis of a case study
  2. Taking a patient history in Czech, based on the thematic areas covered in the 3rd year (see syllabus)

Alternative Option for Fluent Czech/Slovak Speakers

Students who are fluent in Czech or Slovak may, upon agreement with the instructor:

·         prepare a detailed case study in Czech according to a provided template during the semester,

·         present their case study in the simulation centre or to the instructor.
