The investigation focused on The Schwules Museum (SMU), founded in 1984 in Berlin, Germany. The research aims to understand the nature of these identitarian museums that emerged after the 1970s. To do so, the second chapter reviews relevant literature on museums, the third chapter focuses on the emergence of these museums as a new phenomenon in the heritage field using the SMU as a case study to understand this new dynamic of identitarian typology. The final chapter analyzes the discourse of the SMU. In order to understand how the community, from a heritage perspective, deals with the complex relationship with identity politics, it is necessary to examine the formation of these institutions. In this sense, discourse analysis in this research is not just about showing certain practices of representation in a particular museum that identify and change subjects, but also showcases heritage as a political resource that is constantly being re-signified and used by communities over time. Through the analysis of discourse, we can gain valuable insights into the role of heritage in contemporary society.
