Zásady pro vypracování

Diplomová práce se zaměření na porovnání ne/předložkové komplementace sloves prevent a stop z hlediska registru (beletrie, noviny, případně specifický akademický registr). Naváže na dosavadní studie, které vývoj komplementace těchto dvou sloves zkoumaly diachronně a/nebo v rámci porovnání regionálních variet.
Teoretická část práce shrne dosavadní výsledky studií zaměřených na distribuci typu ne/předložkového komplementu I prevented him (from) going to the party, a navíc zahrne variantu s konatelem vyjádřením posesivem I prevented his going to the party. Shrne i faktory, které s volbou formy podle dosavadních výzkumů korelují.
Praktická část shromáždí korpusová data reprezentující zkoumané registry, které bude charakterizovat frekvenčně i kvalitativně (korelace s faktory, jako je
komplexita (Rohdenburg), ikonicita (Dixon), sémantika celé konstrukce I prevented her going – ‚I did it directly‘ x I prevented her from going – ‚I did it indirectly‘, typ –ing slovesa či forma stop/prevent, či další, které vyplynou ze vzorku.
Cílem práce bude ověřit, zda forma komplementace těchto dvou sloves představuje registrovou charakteristiku (např. OED uvádí, že varianta bez předložky je někdy považována za nesprávnou).

Práce bude vypracována v anglickém jazyce.
