Representation of heritage via digital and online tools gains more attention from culture professionals and the general public. Mobile applications allow museums to reach wider audiences, make heritage more accessible for people with special needs and provide content in more various forms. Catholic cathedrals, being the sites that have both great tourism potential and rich historical and cultural legacy, also create their mobile applications
available in several languages. This thesis aims to shed light on how mobile applications are used to display heritage of religious sites, namely of four European cathedrals. The visual and textual content and the design of the applications will be analysed to explore how heritage meets religious and secular needs. As a result, it is supposed to gain insights on issues of presenting catholic heritage via mobile applications and their advantageous solutions. Besides, the theoretical output is supposed to bridge the existing literature on religious heritage and digital museum tools.
