| The goal of this thesis is to analyze and compare female friendships in selected works written by Zora Neale Hurston, Alice Walker and Toni Morrison. The works chosen are Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Color Purple and Sula. There is a link connecting these authors for they acknowledged one another’s work. They share similar thematic features, yet each of them portrays the matters (in this case, friendship) in a fairly different manner, which leads to a discussion contrasting those aspects that they have in common and those that distinguish them. The analysis will observe bonds among women protagonists in the three novels and take into account the Afro-American context as well as the specifics of the time period they are set in. |
