Starting points:
In the past few years, European Union has proposed several enhancements in the preservation of the planet by laws and directives, with which they try to protect the environment for future generations. In the case of the automobile production we can talk about policy which have been regulating industries since 1996 and is also known as IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control). Producers are bound to use the “best available technique” (BAT) concept in order to reduce water, soil and air pollution. New update of the existing IPPC is a directive from 2010 which has to be implemented into the national legislation by member states(European Commission, 2010). These new laws and guidelines have brought up a new way of thinking and a wave of “green” products have been spreading throughout economic fields, often using ideas such as for example “green economy”.
Environmental management system (EMS) has been incorporated into the process of large companies and influenced their functions (Beamon, 1999). EMS is influenced by ISO 14000, which is a family of standards that helps organizations to deal with environmental issues. Boiral(2007)concludes that companies are more likely to adopt these standards while there was some outer force in the sense of institutional legitimacy. ŠKODA AUTO plc is successfully following these standards and is a bearer of ISO certificates. We will look more thoroughly into how these steps helped the case company to become more environmentally friendly.

Objectives:
Research question: What external conditions and potential ecological contributions do prompt the automobile company ŠKODA AUTO plc to manufacture environmentally friendly products and to become more environmentally friendly company?
The main objective of this work will be a deeper understanding of outer factors related to adoption of environmentally conscious practices and of adaptation strategies used by the case company to accommodate to policy restrictions and market demands.

Methods:
For my bachelor thesis I have decided to do a case study of ŠKODA AUTO plc. The analysis of documents is going to be the main approach, with the sources such as annual reports of the company, reports from the EU grantsand public opinion research in the Czech Republic.
Other method is going to be collecting relevant pieces of information and studies about environmental practices of the automobile company ŠKODA AUTO plc.
The case study of the company ŠKODA AUTO plc will be focused also on the analysis of outer forces influencing the ecological ways of manufacture, production and marketing, such as policies and policy instruments on national and European level, but also market incentives and structure, as well as customer demand and feedback.

Hypothesis:
External conditions such as laws, directives and markets, force ŠKODA AUTO plc to become environmentally friendly.
The new legislatives and directives from the European Union are going to change the way cars are produced.
The case company will try to either keep up or be ahead of policies and legislative creating demand and pressure on efficiency standards in manufacturing and final products.

Characteristics of the conclusion:
From my work I expect a deeper understanding of outer forces motivating the automobile company to switch towards more green ways of production as well as products. In what ways the case company is forced to change their ways of production and if there have been or are any other attempts to change the manufacture or the business itself, i.e., what strategies the company uses to adapt to new policy restrictions and incentives, as well as to changing market.
In what ways is ŠKODA AUTO plc contributing to production in more environmentally friendly ways and how are they applying those policies into their daily life.
