Research of neural representation of spatial behavior has been focus on hippocampus. Discovery of so called grid cells in the entorhinal cortex has attracted attention of scientists to the entorhinal cortex. This brain area is the major cortical afferent to the hippocampus. Likely the interaction of these two structures results in the representation of subject?s position. The aim of the thesis is to review the available literature about the role of the entorhinal cortex in spatial behavior of rats.
