Timepix3 is a solid-state elementary particle detector capable of detecting elementary charged particles with a high time resolution. The goal of the thesis is to propose and implement a system for processing data from two-layered Timepix3 detectors. Each Timepix3 detector detects hits of charged particles on a 256x256 grid of pixels. Different substances are inserted between the sensors that can produce secondary charged particles when hit by neutrons of varying energy. Such a configuration enables the detection of neutrons that Timepix3 detectors cannot otherwise detect. Two-layer Timepix3 detectors generate huge data files of several gigabytes.

The result of the thesis will be a system consisting of two parts. The first part will be a GUI application for filtering and analyzing coincident events on the two layers of the detector. Such an application will enable the inspection and analysis of individual events on the detector, like the shape of the detected trajectories of individual particles, the energy deposited by the particle, and the estimation of the direction of arrival. The second part is an extendible library of scripts and functions that can batch-process whole data files with selected parameters for establishing the composition of the stream of detected particles, emphasizing detecting neutrons of different energy. For efficiency, the system should be implemented in C++ using the ROOT library developed at CERN.
