Předběžná náplň práce

Tato práce se věnuje tématu nárůstu podpory strany Alliance Party of Northern Ireland v Severním Irsku v posledních letech. Strana si i přes fakt, že se neidentifikuje ani jako unionistická, ani jako nacionalistická, dokázala na severoirské politické scéně vydobýt stálou pozici a v poslední době je u ní patrný významný nárůst podpory. To se projevilo zejména při volbách do Severoirského shromáždění v květnu 2022, kdy strana vykázala rekordní zisk a stala se třetí nejsilnější stranou v regionu, což je v její historii bezprecedentní událost. Práce si klade za cíl zjistit, jaké jsou možné faktory ovlivňující stoupající podporu strany; analyzuje jednak data z průzkumů veřejného mínění a sčítání lidu, zachycující vývoj severoirské společnosti v rovině náboženské a politické identity, jednak možné příčiny související s aktuální politickou situací. Věnuje se též vývoji strany a jejímu působení zejména během severoirského mírového procesu. Teoretický základ práce vychází z teorie konsociační demokracie Arenda Lijpharta a analyzuje, jak tato teorie, resp. její prvky obsažené ve Velkopáteční dohodě ovlivňují pozici strany v severoirském politickém systému.

Předběžná náplň práce v anglickém jazyce

This bachelor thesis examines the growth of support for the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland in Northern Ireland in recent years. Despite the fact that it identifies as neither unionist nor nationalist, the party has managed to carve out a permanent position on the Northern Irish political scene and has recently seen a significant increase in support. This was particularly evident at the Northern Ireland Assembly elections in May 2022, when the party posted record gains to become the third strongest party in the region, an unprecedented event in its history. The paper aims to identify possible factors influencing the party's rising support; it analyses both opinion polling and census data, capturing the evolution of Northern Irish society in terms of religious and political identity, and possible causes related to the current political situation. It also looks at the development of the party and its performance, particularly during the Northern Ireland peace process. The theoretical basis of the thesis is based on Arend Lijphart's theory of consociational democracy and analyses how this theory, or its elements contained in the Good Friday Agreement, influenced the position of the party in the Northern Irish political system.
