Second-order characteristics are often used for the description of basic properties for spatial point processes. The most popular ones are Ripley's K-function and the pair correlation function. In practice, a realization of the point process is restricted to some bounded window. This causes that the estimation of summary characteristics is hampered by the edge effects. The aim of this thesis is to investigate statistical properties of these estimates. The main focus will be on their bias and variance. In some special cases, it is possible to numerically express or approximate bias and variance. The author will conduct a simulation study in order to compare approximations suggested in the literature with empirical values. |
