Předběžná náplň práce

Diplomová práce „Význam Arktidy v mezinárodních vztazích“ se zabývá vzrůstajícím významem Arktidy v posledním desetiletí (2000–2010). V důsledku klimatických změn dochází k tání Severního ledového oceánu, čímž se otevírá možnost snadnějšího přístupu k nerostným surovinám. Odhaduje se, že v arktickém mořském dně se skrývají obrovské zásoby ropy a zemního plynu, čímž se Arktida stává pro okolní státy zajímavým regionem. Kromě přístupu ke zdrojům surovin by mohly být v budoucnu využívány i nové námořní cesty Severním ledovým oceánem, které by výrazně zkrátily dosavadní plavební trasy. Pět států sousedících s Arktidou (Kanada, Spojené státy, Rusko, Norsko a Dánsko) se v současnosti snaží rozšířit své výlučné ekonomické zóny v Severním ledovém oceánu. Jednají přitom v souladu s mezinárodními pravidly, která stanovila Úmluva OSN o mořském právu z roku 1982. Tato diplomová práce zkoumá a analyzuje teritoriální nároky těchto států, jejich požadavky na rozšíření kontinentálního šelfu, hraniční spory s ostatními zeměmi i další klíčové záležitosti týkající se Arktidy.

Předběžná náplň práce v anglickém jazyce

The MA thesis „The Importance of the Arctic in International Relations“ deals with the increasing importance of the Arctic in the last decade (2000–2010). Due to climate change the Arctic Ocean has been melting and therefore enables an easier access to natural resources. It it estimated that the Arctic possesses vast reserves of oil and natural gas which makes the Arctic an interesting region for the neighbouring states. Apart from the question of the natural resources, new shipping lanes through the Arctic Ocean, which would considerably shorten current routes, could be used in future. Five Arctic rim states (Canada, United States, Russia, Norway, and Denmark) are currently trying to extend their exclusive economic zones in the Arctic Ocean. In doing so, they act in accordance with the international rules established by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This thesis examines and analyzes the territorial claims of these states, their submissions for the continental shelf extension, maritime boundaries disputes with other countries, and other key questions regarding the Arctic.
