| The topic of this diploma work is the city of Paris and its image in the work od french writer ? Émile Zola.
The objective is to demonstrate how the theme of Paris in the second half of the 19 th century is presented in his four famous books ? Le Ventre de Paris, L?Assommoir, Une Page d?Amour and Au Bonheur des Dames. Criterias of this analysis are historical context and events (rule of Napoleon III. and vast reconstruction and modernisation of the city), different social worlds where the storyline is located and the literal persons and their lifes and destinies. The first part of this diploma work describes France and the city of Paris from the historical point of view ? the political and cultural events. The second part is concentrated on the writer and his relation to his native city. The third part is the main part of this diploma work ? the selected works of Zola are analysed there according to three criterias already mentioned. This diploma work is ending with conclusion that Zola was unique expert of the milieu of Paris and image of this city is captured precisely in his books. |
