The work will focus on transporters of the main macroelements. The aim is to describe the most important membrane transporters involved in N, P, K uptake in roots and to explain the mechanism of their function. Furthermore, to discuss in detail the mechanisms of regulation of their activity in response to temporally and spatially variable mineral nutrient availability and to summarize recent information on the coordination of this regulation (e.g. by regulatory CIPK kinases). The work will also analyse the sensory role of these transporters in the regulation of localised root growth under conditions of heterogeneous nutrient availability.
