The goal of the thesis is - in cooperation with the CommerzBank.com, a university partner - to explore the security of our mutual SSL connections with respect to expected possible advances in Quantum computing. The thesis should help to answer questions like "How long and difficult would it be to use a Quantum Computer to hack into one of those connections?". It is up to the students to explore ways of hacking and evaluating those. The thesis should be concerned on physical attacks like “man in the middle” as we want to explore the possibilities to break the encrypted connection open, not social attacks like Phising or Social Engineering.
A good start to this topic would be SSLv1 and SHA(1) as these protocol and cipher is well studied including any attack vectors. But ultimately it should be TLSv1.3 and ciphers based on Ecliptic Curves. The detail description would be set in cooperation with the CommerzBank. The thesis has to be written in English language |
