The thesis is research oriented. The task is to propose and evaluate methods that can combine self-organizing maps (SOM) with some externally supplied ranking or rating of objects. The main motivation comes the domain of interactive image/video search, where it is important to provide results ordered w.r.t. relevance to some query, but also group similar results together, so that the result grid is easily observed. Student will first explore, whether there are some existing approaches to the problem area (and eventually include them into the evaluation). Then, the main task is to propose several alternatives to handle the task and evaluate them. The evaluation should be conducted on some appropriate dataset of image/video search and incorporate metrics aiming at the ability to group similar objects together as well as metrics evaluating the ability to maintain reasonable rating/ranking of objects. |
