Zásady pro vypracování |
The applicant is expected to learn basic principles of model selection based on Bayesian statistics. Given some data set, the thesis should illustrate how to select relevant explanatory variables from this set to produce the best fitting model. The exact data set of choice is just for illustration of the general approach, one can use for instance football performance data and use it for prediction of a football match. The advantage of using sports data is that the model selection in terms of the posterior probability of the model can be linked to the profit statistics on a hypothetical market that would trade the predictions in terms of betting odds. The main expected contribution of the thesis is to apply the general theory on specific data set and give numerical illustration of this approach. The applicant should use modern computer language to implement the model selection procedure, for instance Python or R. |
